How and when did you decide, or discover, that you were to be a writer?
I’ve been writing since I was a child. Whether it was letters, diaries, make-shift poems that rhymed hilariously and even songs, it has been part of my DNA for decades. When I look back now, it makes perfect sense that it was happening all along.
What inspired you to write flash fiction?
I fell into a niche perhaps as I can write poetry very easily; flash fiction for me is like writing a slightly longer poem with more form.
Describe your writing process.
I write first thoughts when I wake up, the raw particles that come from a dream, born from nothing, from watching the sunrise or listening to an owl just before dawn, this is when the magic lives in me and this is when I capture it. I journal a lot, write everything, even the stupidest stuff, I put it all down somewhere. I read everything, from Virgil’s Aeneid to most recently, a Tony Robbins book, Awaken the Giant Within, down to sub-culture writers. I learn from the oldest of old, to the newest of new and the strangest of strange. When a piece is born, I let it sit, perhaps I need to let it cool. Could be a week, or even a month before I pick it up again. Then when I re-read it for the first time, I do not let it go. When I can’t even look at it anymore, it’s done. Then later, possibly months, I will read it and if I love it just same, I know it is right.
What was the inspiration behind what was published on FewerThan500.com?
I wanted to display a modern and crude version of “a love story”, you know boy meets girl, they fall in love, they either live happily ever after or it ends badly. I wanted to capture a tainted fiber of that and recreate it almost in a satirical way and just get to the point.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a very dark, twisted and super raw (much) longer story about your average girl next door and what becomes of her when she takes a very wrong turn in her life by just waking up to go to the bathroom – are some of us truly fated for doom or is it simply chance?…….stay tuned 🙂
